Hello all,
I have some how seemed to hosed my startup sequence of my installation of Trisquel. When I boot up, I get the normal LightDM login screen asking for my password, but upon successfully entering it, it just flashes and goes right back to the login screen. Like it's stuck in a loop. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
grimlok
Purge LightDM and Xfce, set the GRUB Linux parameter to 'text' just to be safe,
reboot, and reinstall lightdm, xfce4, and xfce4-goodies. Be sure to get rid of
any configuration files beforehand.
When in doubt, re-install.
If you don't want to reinstall for some reason, at least give us the logs so we
can troubleshoot. To get X logs, try and reboot in text-mode (you could either
use recovery mode, or pass text to GRUB). Then set up an xinitrc and try and
startx.
Do you run graphical apps with sudo? This is what happens when permissions go wonky. One should always use gksudo.
It all started when I tried to install a newer version of Remmina from Ubuntu packages, it said it needed dependencies, so I installed the first dependency also from Ubuntu's packages. It was Libglib2.0... Apparently that's a big one to be playing with and it sent my whole system in a tizzy...
I finally got back to proper booting by deleting my .Xauthority and .ICEauthority files.
Some things are still a bit wos wonky, but I'll work through it. I may just do a re-install, since I haven't done it for 2 years.
Thanks everyone again!
