AMD GPU Hardware Acceleration

Hi to all. I'm new to Trisquel and trying to make my way in.
I've installed it in a AMD cpu with integraded GPU.
When using MATE everything seems smooth. When I switch to cinnamon which I'm more comfortable with, it states that there is no video Hardware acceleration and CPU skyrockets and the fan buzzes like nuts!
I'm wondering: Is this normal? Is HW accel dependent on the DE or am I doing something wrong? What can I do to enable it?
glxinfo shows LLVMpipe in both cases.
I don't care about 3D or gaming, I just need GPU to be utilized.
Welcome here !
llvmpipe means no 3D acceleration. I don't think hardware graphics acceleration is related to the DE, there may be another issue with cinnamon on Trisquel. You can try "ps kcpu aux" to see which processes cause the high CPU load. Which AMD CPU do you have exactly? Sometimes, having a newer linux-libre kernel can help for better hardware support. You could follow advice at https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel for this. You can also get the very newest linux-libre by following instructions at https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/linux-libre/freesh.en.html.
Thanks for the links. I'll give them a try.
My cpu is AMD 2400GE with integrated Radeon Vega 11 GPU.
AFAIK, no new AMD GPU has free firmware for their drivers.
Meaning no 3D acceleration.
